Reading
Response (Carey)
Carey organizes his
text by first introducing what for-profit universities used to be and how they
evolved into a business more than an educational system. He then goes on by
discussing who has interests in for-profit universities and its profits, how
for-profit universities operate, and how they receive money. I believe the way
he organized his text was simply to put everything in context. He gives
information that allows the reader to think while they read on to the next
sentence or paragraph.
Carey writes in an
effective way to allow his readers to be engaged in the text. He asks rhetorical
questions and then criticizes information that was presented to him.
Most of Carey's text
seem very persuasive. He presents a great argument between how for-profit
schools are funded and ran like a business and whether or not the schools
provide the education that's worth paying for.
